The Batty Boat Cruise took place on Sunday, October 27, right in the heart of Halloween season, and we weren’t disappointed by the unique characters who joined us on board!

Our journey on the MV Mirimar began with a scenic cruise down the river to New Farm Park, offering a close-up view of Brisbane’s stunning skyline and a chance to admire the city’s newly constructed bridges.

As we paused opposite New Farm Park at sunset, we witnessed the spectacular sight of fruit bats emerging from the southern bank near the Canning Bridge over Norman Creek, soaring across the river as twilight settled in.

While the fruit bats were flying overhead Wildlife Queensland experts provided fascinating commentary on the bats’ behaviors and habitats, enriching our understanding of these amazing creatures. Volunteers from Bat Conservation and Rescue Qld also brought along Jeremy, a young, rescued bat, giving us a memorable close encounter as he is cared for until his eventual return to the wild.

The evening cruise back to Southbank was just as enchanting, with stunning views of Brisbane illuminated by night.

After disembarking, most of the group enjoyed a delightful dinner at a Turkish restaurant in Southbank, a perfect end to an unforgettable experience.

Special thanks to Ron for suggesting and organizing such an informative and enjoyable event!
